Battery Electric Vehicles
Why choose BEV
Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) use an electric motor that runs on 100% battery power and charges from an electric charging point. That means there is no need to fill it with petrol or diesel, and it will emit zero tailpipe emissions when being driven.
How it works
Our all-electric vehicles are equipped with lithium-ion battery packs. With their high energy capacity, Li-ion batteries pack a lot of power into a small and lightweight unit.
Here’s how all-electric vehicles work: a charge gives the batteries chemical energy, which can then be ‘discharged’ into the connected motor. This is what drives the vehicle and gives your Ford BEV such a smooth ride.
In addition, all of our BEVs are equipped with Regenerative Braking. Energy that would otherwise be lost from coasting or braking is recovered and channelled directly into the battery. This makes the most of the vehicle’s electric range.
Zero tailpipe emissions
When driving your Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) have peace of mind knowing your vehicle is contributing zero tailpipe emissions into the environment.
Recharge at home
Plug in your BEV overnight at home and let it recharge, or top up at an available public charging station.
Reduced maintenance
All-electric vehicles have fewer moving parts than an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle. That means less maintenance and lower maintenance costs
Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What is a BEV vehicle?
A BEV, or Battery Electric Vehicle, is an all-electric vehicle . It runs on 100% battery power and charges from an electric charging point. That means there is no need to fill it with petrol or diesel and zero tailpipe emissions when being driven.
- Q: What is the difference between BEV and PHEV?
Battery Electric vehicles use a battery powered electric motor instead of a conventional combustion engine that requires fuel to run the vehicle. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) use a combination of both a battery powered electric motor and a combustion engine to run the vehicle.
- Q: How far can I drive on a single BEV charge?
If you consider our All-Electric Mustang Mach-E, drivers can expect to drive between 400km and 600km on a full battery charge depending on which Mach-E model is being driven1.
- Q: Can I tow with a BEV?
Towing with a Battery Electric Vehicle is possible. Towing capacities will vary, however, depending on the model chosen. For more information, please review the towing capacities of the vehicle you are interested in.
- IMPORTANT INFORMATION
- Based on a full charge. Estimated range using Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP). Figures shown are for comparability purposes and should only be compared with other vehicles tested to the same technical procedures. Actual range varies with conditions such as external elements like temperature, driving behaviours, route profile, vehicle maintenance, and lithium-ion battery age and condition. WLTP Overall Range reflects a combined driving cycle. This test is conducted in controlled conditions with an ambient temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and no climate or electrical load.
